Burst Pipe & Emergency Plumbing Help in Davis & Weber County
A split pipe, water coming through a ceiling, or a line that froze overnight. Close the valve, then call.
Burst & frozen pipes
What usually goes wrong
Water first, then everything else. Close the main valve for the house, open the lowest faucet to relieve pressure, and keep away from wet outlets and appliances. If the break is outside in a sprinkler line, that is usually the secondary (irrigation) system, which has its own valve separate from your culinary water.
If a pipe is frozen but has not split, open the faucet it feeds and warm the pipe slowly with a hair dryer or space heater kept at a safe distance. Never use a torch or open flame. Pipes in garages, crawl spaces and outside walls are the ones most likely to freeze during a cold Wasatch Front winter.
When you call, say that water is actively leaking and how long it has been running. Ask about after-hours fees before the visit, and photograph the damage before cleanup for your insurance claim.
